Baby boy stable after being given mother's post-birth medicine

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - It was a potentially dangerous mix-up at a Montcalm County hospital.

It happened at Corewell Health United.

Kendra Powell, 27, says her newborn had to be sent to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital after the little boy was accidentally given an IV she was supposed to get.

The drug is administered to shrink the mother's uterus after childbirth. Powell says Jaxson was supposed to get a drug to increase his blood-glucose levels.

Powell's baby was given the wrong medicine for nearly a half-hour.

The baby is now said to be stable.
