SPRING LAKE (WOOD-AM) - "Gender Queer" is being taken out of the Spring Lake High School library following a decision by the district's school board last night.
The book is about the author's sexuality and gender identity.
The vote was 4-3.
"The pictures were uncomfortable," board president Jennifer Nicles said. "I did not like them. I do understand people's concern as to what those pictures are. I also understand the importance of the book itself. I’m torn. I see good, and I see reservations."
Nicles voted in favor.
The book can still be checked out through a school counselor, social worker or school psychologist with parental consent.
