1 Michigan republican nominee for governor Tudor Dixon unveiled her version of Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act Tuesday at the Michigan State Capitol.
Dixon’s plan is called 'Age Appropriate Classroom Instruction Act.'
The act would ban teachers from talking about sexual orientation or gender identity with K-3 students.
The proposal is not anti-LGBTQ but about getting back to basics for kids who are still trying to learn the basics, Dixon said.
"Parents deserve to know that their children will get a great education, learn how to read, write and do math," Dixon said. "That's all parents want. That's common sense."
2 The man who shot a pro-life volunteer said it was an accident. He’s been identified as the husband of the woman who was arguing with the volunteer.
He admits to shooting the woman but says the way it happened was an accident.
3 More than 2.5 million people have been told to evacuate as Hurricane Ian moves toward Florida.
Flooding and life-threatening storm surge are expected.
Ian has strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 mph, the National Hurricane Center said today.
Projections had Ian on track to hit Tampa Bay, which would have been the first direct hit in 100 years, but the hurricane's path has since shifted south, with residents in Daytona Beach now bracing for impact.
