LANSING (WOOD-AM) - State canvassers will meet this morning to discuss a petition that, if approved by voters, would put abortion rights in the Michigan constitution.

The board will be tasked with deciding on whether the question will make the November ballot.

The hearing in Lansing is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. WOOD-TV will carry a stream on its website.

Organizers submitted more than 750,000 signatures, which is sufficient to get the question on the ballot, but the proposal is being challenged by groups who say the ballot language contains "nonsensical gibberish" that would enter the state constitution if passed.

The issue would head to the courts if the board deadlocks today. The board consists of two Democrats and two Republicans.
