GRPD releases body camera footage of officer involved shooting

The Grand Rapids Police Department is releasing the body camera video that appears to show a man raising a gun at an officer before two officers shot and wound him.

Police say the 26-year-old white man lives in the area and is in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Officers were called to the area of Forrester Street and Bonita Drive around 1:45 a.m. Thursday on reports of a suspect reportedly breaking into cars.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom says based on everything he saw in the video, the actions of officers seemed to be in line with department policy.
