MI Supreme Court: law protects sexual orientation

The Michigan Supreme Court is ruling businesses cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation because of protections under the state's civil rights act.

The court ruled in Rouch World, LLC v. Department of Civil Rights on Thursday.

The suit was filed by Rouch World, a wedding venue in Sturgis that refused to hold a wedding for a same-sex couple.

The Department of Civil Rights argued the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act covers gender identity and sexual orientation.
