Unresponsive man found left behind on Rapid bus

A cleaning crew found an unconscious man on the floor of a Rapid bus earlier this month.

It appears the Rapids bus driver failed to notice 65-year-old Carlos Mercado on the floor of the bus when he parked it at the bus garage.

The incident occurred in the evening of July 8 and Mercado was pronounced dead within an hour of being discovered.

An autopsy has not been completed yet however the Kent County Medical Examiner has released some details.

Mercado got on the bus at 5:36 p.m. and fanned himself as he sat down.

Surveillance video shows him slumping onto the floor at 5:42 p.m.

The bus is parked at 5:53 p.m. and the cleaning crew enters the bus and finds Mercado within minutes.

Mercado's family has not commented on his death.
