Next Lyoya murder case court hearing pushed back

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kent County Prosecutor's Office said on Tuesday that the preliminary exam in the case of the officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of Patrick Lyoya has been pushed back from July 18 to Aug. 30.

The defense team for former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr requested the adjournment “due to a large amount of discovery in this case.”

On June 10, Schurr was charged with second-degree murder, and if convicted, faces a sentence of life in prison.
