Kelley pleads not guilty to Capitol riot misdemeanors

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Republican candidate for governor Ryan Kelley has pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanors in connection with last January's riot at the Capitol.

Kelley was arrested last month after an FBI raid at his home.

The FBI alleges he waived rioters forward after climbing onto a portion of the building. He has also been accused of destroying a tarp that was covering scaffolding.

During this week's GOP debate, Kelley said he was in Washington that day exercising his First Amendment rights.
