Man accused of poaching admits he was drunk

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says a man who has admitted to illegally poaching deer and spearing snapping turtles, admits he was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol.

Edward Trout pleaded not guilty on Friday to taking game from a vehicle, two counts of hunting and fishing without a license, taking and possessing deer out of season and using illegal fishing devices.

The DNR has received eight tips in the past five months that reported gunfire at night and deer carcasses found in the area after.

Officers interviewed Trout, who admitted he drove around at night, listening to music and would occasionally shoot his pistol into vacant fields from his truck.
