West Michigan responds to Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling on Friday, sending the issue of abortion to the states to decide.

Anti-abortion rights activists cheered the decision, while pro-abortion rights activists called it a dark day for the country.

Dr. Sarah Wallett, the chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Michigan says the loss of Roe v. Wade protections will restrict access to care for millions of patients.

Wallett says it will be devastating as a physician to have to tell patients they can't help them because politicians have restricted their access to care.

Bishop David Walkowiak of the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids says the Catholic Church remains committed to helping women and couples facing unexpected or difficult pregnancies.

Annalise Laumeyer, a spokesperson for the diocese, says the decision today is what they have been waiting and praying for.
