Schurr to be arraigned in Grand Rapids on Friday for OIS that killed Lyoya

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Christopher Schurr will be arraigned Friday on a second-degree murder charge following the April officer-involved shooting death of Patrick Lyoya in Grand Rapids.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker announced the charge yesterday afternoon.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom has put in paperwork to suspend the officer without pay and, eventually, have him fired. Previously, Schurr was on paid administrative leave.

If convicted, Schurr, 31, could be ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison with the possibility of parole.
