GRPS will no longer require uniforms

Grand Rapids Public Schools students will not be required to wear a uniform next year.

Superintendent Leadriane Roby says a new dress code will be implemented for the 2022-23 school year.

The change came from the Superintendent's Scholars Advisory Council as a way to increase empowerment, belonging and agency.

Roby says while families and staff were split on uniforms, students were overwhelmingly against them.
