One week after gunfight, East Kentwood holds graduation ceremony

KENTWOOD (WOOD-AM) - A week after two people were shot in the football stadium parking lot after the Crossroads Alternative High School graduation ceremony, East Kentwood High School held its commencement at the same venue without any reported issues.

Security was heightened for last night's event. Weapons detectors were out, sheriff's deputies were on scene and a bag policy was also enforced.

"Kentwood is a strong community," parent Francis Torres told WOOD-TV. "So I feel like they've taken the extra leap. They've taken the extra security seriously."

Two innocent bystanders, a 16-year-old from Texas and a 40-year-old local woman, were shot last week. Authorities say two people involved in the gunfight have been arrested so far.
