The Big Three 5-13-22
1 The first Republican gubernatorial candidate debate took place yesterday in Howell. 8 of the 10 were there and faced questions about abortion, Governor Whitmer’s failed COVID response and nursing home deaths, as well as the economy.
Chief Craig and Donna Brandenburg were no shows.
2 The Biden administration announced a plan to ease the pain felt by baby formula shortages.
The plan would increase imports, crack down on price-gouging and relax some rules to get formula back on the shelves.
Yesterday, Florida Congresswoman Kat Cammack shared pictures and reports that pallets of baby formula had been shipped to the border for illegal immigrants amid empty shelves in stores throughout the country.
3 While Americans are struggling with higher prices on everything from gas to groceries from what some call Biden-flation, the President plans to send another $40 Billion in aid to Ukraine.
Not so fast.
The Senate was set to vote on the package yesterday and Sen. Rand Paul delayed a vote to send nearly $40 billion of aid to Ukraine.
The senator faced backlash over his opposition but said he stands by his decision. “My oath of office is to the U.S. Constitution, not to any foreign nation,” Paul tweeted Thursday evening, repeating his remarks on the Senate floor. While he said he sympathizes with the Ukrainian people, Paul added that the United States “cannot continue to spend money we don’t have” because doing so is “threatening our own national security.”
