Flooding in Big Rapids area after heavy rain

Officials are asking people to avoid Big Rapids as flooding and traffic backups are making many streets "impassable."

Heavy rain caused rivers to overrun their banks and flood the area.

Mecosta County Emergency Management says the area received between 2 to 4 inches of rain.

Authorities are reminding drivers to never travel through standing water, as it is difficult to tell how deep it is.
