Lyoya over legal limit during GRPD altercation

The Kent County Medical Examiner says toxicology tests for Patrick Lyoya show he was over the legal limit for driving when he was pulled over by a Grand Rapids police officer.

The medical examiner says Lyoya's BAC was .29, while the state's legal limit for driving is .08.

Lyoya was shot and killed by GRPD officer Chris Schurr on April 4, after he attempted to run away and struggled with the officer.

As of earlier this week, Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker was still awaiting the missing forensic reports he needs to make a decision on possible charges for the officer.
