Murder upheld by SCOTUS, despite shackling at trial

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The U.S. Supreme Court voted 6-3 to uphold the murder conviction of Ervine Davenport, who said his civil rights were violated when he was shackled during his trial.

Davenport was convicted for the 2007 murder of Annette White in Kalamazoo.

The state courts agreed the jury should not have seen Davenport shackled, as it could have created a presumption of guilt.
