The Big Three 4-11-22
1 Michigan drivers are seeing a little bit of relief at the pump as prices fall below $4 for the first time in almost five weeks.
The average price per gallon is down nine cents compared to last week with drivers paying about $3.95 per gallon for regular unleaded. The average price per gallon is now down 31 cents compared to last month, but is up $1.16 compared to this time last year.
2 George Floyd Attorney, Benjamin Crump, is in town. Crump joined community leaders for a Sunday afternoon forum on the death of Patrick Lyoya, who was killed during an alleged struggle with a Grand Rapids police officer on April 4.
The family is demanding that the video be released to the public. Kent County prosecutor had said the video wouldn’t be released during the ongoing investigation but as things wrap up, the video is planned for release by Friday.
The GRPD says that Lyoya tried to run away from an officer and that there was then a “lengthy fight” before he was shot and killed.
Lyoya’s father and his interpreter have seen it. The interpreter says it shows the officer shootting Lyoya in the back of the head.
3 Bad week for Federal prosecutions
Two of four men accused were acquitted Friday in an alleged conspiracy to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020.
The verdicts against Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were read in the federal court in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jurors said they couldn’t agree on verdicts against Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. Prosecutors described Fox as a ringleader of an anti-government group.
In those two cases the judge has declared a mistrial.
