Newaygo County Sheriff Bob Mendham says an escape attempt by three federal inmates has already led to changes at the jail.
Inmates Jaron Howard Morgan, Victor Lamont Garcia and Timothy Mark Calicutt are accused of starting to escape the jail through the ceiling above their shared cell back in September.
The men held up a blanket to cover the security camera while they worked on their attempt.
Mendham says he was surprised the jail did not catch on sooner and it was an eye opening experience about some changes they could make.
The men never got close to escaping.
