GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Versiti Blood Center and the American Red Cross each have less than a one-day supply of blood.
Versiti president Dawn Kaiser calls the supply the lowest they've had in the past decade.
"Patients could be at risk. Those who are suffering from trauma or cancer patients or people who need daily transfusions, they might not get what they need because we don’t have enough on the shelves," Kaiser said.
West Michigan Red Cross executive director Breeze Ettl says COVID-19 and staffing issues combined with the holidays and supply chain issues are all to blame.
