AUGUSTA, Mich. - Marine Corps Cpl. Andrew Pellerito, a solider from Grand Rapids who was killed in World War II, will be laid to rest on Tuesday in West Michigan.
At the age of 22, Pellerito was killed on Nov. 20, 1943, the first day of battle against Japanese forces. His remains were unidentified until August of this year.
In light of the discovery, the military will place a rosette next to Pellerito’s name listed on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific to indicate he’s been accounted for.
He is going to be buried in Augusta, over 78 years after dying in battle.
