The Allegan County Health Department is rescinding their school mask mandate.
The department says some language in the new 2022 budget that Governor Whitmer signed on Wednesday could mean health departments lose funding if they have COVID-19 orders in place past October 1, 2021.
Health Officer Angelique Joynes says the decision to rescind the mask mandate was not made lightly however, they can't lose $1 million of their budget.
The change goes into effect at 5 p.m. Thursday.
