The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says it has confirmed the state's first case of balsam woolly adelgid near Rockford.
The department says the homeowner contacted an arborist after they noticed some trees in their yard were declining.
MDARD says they do not know how long the bug has been in the state or how it got here.
The Balsam woolly adelgid sucks sap from trees and weakens and kills them over the course of many years.
