1 The House voted yesterday to set up what they’re calling a bipartisan 9/11-style commission to investigate the events of Jan. 6 at the Capitol.
35 republicans, including two from West Michigan, Upton and Meijer voted with democrats to pass the bill.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he will not support it. The bill needs 60 votes to pass in the senate.
2 Grand Rapids city commissioners will vote on the 2022 budget today.
The proposed budget for next year lowers the police department’s budget from 38.5% to 35.8% of the general fund.
The GR Defund the police movement is demanding
the city drop the funding down even lower to 32%.
3 A spokesperson with Michigan's health department says the agency will likely recommended that mask mandates remain in place in schools for the rest of the academic year.
He said that would apply to all students, teachers and staff members – even those who are fully vaccinated against the virus.
