GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - The more-transmissible British coronavirus variant has been identified in Kent County for the first time.
The discovery is prompting a renewed call for social distancing, mask-wearing and regular hand-washing.
Kent County Health Director Adam London said the mutation was detected in a woman in her 20s.
"The good news is there are things that everyone can do to make it difficult for this virus to spread, even though it is more contagious, and those remain to be the same things that we've learned to do so well over the past year,” London said.
The resident has since recovered.
