With bitter cold temps in the forecast for the next week, Grand Rapids city officials say frozen pipes are a possibility.
Grand Rapids Water Manager Wayne Jernberg says pipes near an outside wall, in unheated garages or basements or in crawl spaces are the most likely to freeze.
Officials recommend wrapping exposed pipes in insulation, temporarily letting the faucet run at a steady drip or using a fan to blow warm air into cooler areas.
Jernberg says if a pipe breaks, residents should turn off water and call a plumber.
