St. Joseph County Sheriff's deputies say a drunk driver was able to escape from handcuffs and steal a police cruiser on Monday.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. after a single car crash was reported near Hoshel and Lutz roads in Lockport Township.
The suspect was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
While police searched her vehicle, the woman was able to slip out of her handcuffs, crawl into the front seat and drive away.
The driver then hit several trees and a utility pole.
