The state of Michigan has now recorded over 10,000 people who have died after having COVID-19.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced 5,909 new cases and 191 deaths on Tuesday.
Seventy-nine of the deaths were found during reviews of death certificates.
Governor Whitmer has called for flags to be lowered to half-staff for 10 days to honor those that died.
