After Democrats boycott committee vote, GOP advances SCOTUS nominee Barrett

Senate Holds Confirmation Hearing For Amy Coney Barrett To Be Supreme Court Justice

BYJORDAIN CARNEY-

GOP members on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted early Thursday to advance Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination after all committee Democrats boycotted the vote.

Republican members on the committee voted 12-0 to send Barrett’s nomination to the full Senate, paving the way for President Trump’s nominee to be confirmed to the Supreme Court early next week.

The final tally showed every Republican member on the panel supported her nomination and no Democratic senator voted.

Although Senate Judiciary committee rules also require two members of the minority party to be present in order to conduct business. Lindsey Graham(R-S.C.), Senate Judiciary Committee Chair, made it clear that he would move forward regardless of the committee's rules.
