ANALYSTS: Largest House battlefield in a decade for Republicans, Democrats

BY BY REID WILSON -

GLENDALE, Ariz. — In what political strategists say is the broadest playing field in a decade, both Democrats and Republicans battling for control of the House are bombarding television sets across the nation with hundreds of millions of dollars in paid advertising in the closing weeks before Election Day.

The nonpartisan firm Advertising Analytics says 31 seats held by Democratic incumbents and 30 seats held by Republicans are being targeted by the four most prominent groups paying for advertising in House races. Those seats stretch from the Alaskan tundra to the beaches of South Florida, from Orange County to rural Maine and seemingly everywhere in between.

Rob Simms, a former executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee, “The Democrats wiped us out in areas that have been trending against us but are still friendly terrain for Republicans. They’re defending 31 seats that President Trump won in 2016. That’s a big battlefield."
