GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials with the Baxter Community Center in Grand Rapids is launching a community-based doula program with hopes of addressing birth disparities affecting women of color.
Kent County Black babies are more than twice as likely to be born at a low-birthweight or die within the first year of life than white babies, according to recent studies.
