Hurricane Sally makes landfall in Alabama as Category 2 storm

Officials with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) saysHurricane Sally made landfall at 4:45 a.m Central Time near Gulf Shores, Alabama as a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The hurricane has left thousands without power near coastal areas of Alabama and theFloridaPanhandle region.

A spokesperson with the National Hurricane Center warned, "Catastrophic and life-threatening flooding likely along portions of the north-central Gulf Coast."
