The man who became the first Black head coach to lead a team to an NCAA national championship, John Thompson Jr., has died at 78.
Thompson's death was confirmed by his family on Monday.
Coach Thompson led he Georgetown University men's team to a national title in 1984, and would go on to coach the U.S. national team to a bronze in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
