GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials for the Michigan Department of Health ichigan and Human Services say the state has recorded four more deaths linked to coronavirus and confirmed 768 more cases, according to data released by the state.
Officials said the new data released Sunday brings the total number of deaths to 6,393 and the total number of COVID-19 cases to 96,792 since the virus was first detected in Michigan in March.
Statewide, 72,580 people have now recovered from COVID-19, meaning they are still alive a month after developing symptoms.
There were also no new deaths were recorded in West Michigan according to data released Sunday.
Michigan's Court of Appeals on Friday upheld Governor Whitmer’s extension of a state of emergency linked to the pandemic, ruling a state law gives her the power to do so and that the law itself is not unconstitutional. Republicans in Michigan's Legislature, sued Whitmer after they refused to extend the emergency in April and she did it without them, promised they would appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Michigan's current emergency declaration runs through Sept. 4; Whitmer may choose to extend it again.
