USGS scientists said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 struck the Alaska isles late Tuesday.
Instruments noted the quake hit about 65 miles south southeast of Perryville, Alaska, struck at 10:12 p.m. local time. It was considered shallow at slightly more than 17 miles, according to theUS Geological Survey (USGS).
Initially, the earthquake triggered a tsunami warning for south Alaska and the Alaskan peninsula, but the warning, as well as other advisories, were canceled later Wednesday morning,CNN reported.
Authorities noted as of early Wednesday that there were “no reports of any damage."
