LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — During a scheduled briefing on Friday morning, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced places like salons, barber shops, nail salons and massage offices would reopen statewide June 15.

Whitmer said barber shops and salons, as well as movie theaters and gyms, may reopen in the northern Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula, June 10, and that the reopening businesses will have to follow safety procedures.

The governor also announced starting June 10, the northern and Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula — labeled regions 6 and 8 in the state’s reengagement plan — will be allowed to have indoor gatherings of up to 50 people. Outdoor gatherings of up to 250 are OK as long as social distancing is followed. Outdoor performance and sporting venues can reopen with a capacity limit of 500.
