Legal experts 'ratio' Trump's executive order aimed at social media companies

WASHINGTON — According to many legal experts on laws pertaining to the Internet, President Donald Trump's executive order, intended to get the federal government more involved in regulating social media sites like Twitter, won't accomplish much and would be bad public policy.
In response to Twitter earlier this week adding fact-check warnings to two of Pres. Trump's tweets that called mail-in ballots "substantially fraudulent" and predicted a "Rigged Election", the president threatened to impose new regulations on social media companies or even to "close them down."
The President's signed executive order on Thursday would direct several parts of the federal government to examine the conduct of Internet companies with an eye toward further restrictions.
