LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — Tensions between Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the GOP-led state legislature got a little wider and deeper Thursday.
A resolution was approved by the House giving Speaker Lee Chatfield, R, to take legal action against the executive branch. A similar resolution is on the agenda in the Senate, though it has not yet been acted upon.
In a letter to Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R, Whitmer said, “Michigan remains in a state of emergency regardless of the actions you decide to take or not take."
Additionally, the state House passed a bill previously passed by the Senate that was designed to limit the governor’s power to declare emergency’s to 14 days. Gov. Whitmer said earlier she would not sign the bill.
