Retired NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was hospitalized with minor injuries after the small plane he was in crashed in Tennessee Thursday afternoon.
Earnhardt’s injuries were described as just cuts and abrasions, reports WJHL, WOOD TV8’s sister station.
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. at the Elizabethton Airport. Airport Manager Dan Cogan said a private plane ran off the end of the runway and caught fire. The Federal Aviation Administration says it was a Cessna Citation that belongs to JRM Air, LLC, based in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The sheriff said Earnhardt’s wife and child were also on the plane, along with a pilot, one other passenger and a family dog.
Kelley Earnhardt tweeted that “everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”
