1 Mexican officials say they are beginning deployment of the country's new National Guard for immigration enforcement. The accelerated commitment of a 6,000-strong force is part of an agreement with the United States to head off threatened US tariffs on imports from Mexico.
2 Comedian Jon Stewart lashed out at members of Congress yesterday for failing to ensure that a victims' compensation fund set up after the 9/11 attacks never runs out of money. Stewart, appearing before a House subcommittee in a room packed with 9/11 first responders called out some lawmakers for failing to attend the hearing on a bill to fund benefits. Members from both parties said they support the bill and were monitoring the hearing amid other congressional business.
3 25 years ago today, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were murdered outside the Simpson home in Los Angeles. Nicole's former husband, football star and actor OJ Simpson, was acquitted of the killings in criminal court, but held liable in a civil suit brought by the families of Brown and Goldman.
