GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Gaines Township man has been found dead, weeks after he was reported missing.
Sgt. Joel Roon with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office says relatives discovered the body of 56-year-old Russell Anderson around 9:50 p.m. Sunday. Roon says Anderson’s body was inside an unattached garage investigators and family members previously searched several times.
The sheriff’s office says sometime after he was reported missing, Anderson returned to the garage without notifying relatives. A medical examiner determined Monday that Anderson died around March 28.
Anderson was reported missing around 9 a.m. on March 18. Surveillance footage showed him leaving an area store around 10:30 a.m. that day. Relatives became concerned because Anderson always returned home to care for his ailing father.
Authorities say there was evidence of drug use at the scene where Anderson was found and there are no signs of foul play in the case. The sheriff’s office is awaiting toxicology results to determine how exactly Anderson died.
