Alpine Ave. crash involving ambulance leads to outages

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — An ambulance is among three vehicles involved in a crash that has closed some lanes of a busy Kent County corridor and knocked out power to the area.

The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday on southbound Alpine Avenue near 3 Mile Road NW in Walker, just south of I-96. 

Authorities say no one was injured in the crash.

The impact of the crash sent an ambulance into a utility pole, knocking down power lines. As of 10:40 a.m., approximately 1,748 homes and businesses in the area were without power, theConsumers Energy outage mapindicated.

Utility crews are at the scene working to fix the power pole. Consumers Energy expects power to be fully restored to the area by noon Tuesday.

Alpine Avenue was also down to one lane in both directions as authorities responded to the scene. It’s unclear when the roadway will fully reopen.
