To The Point: Gas tax hike proposal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Gov. Whitmer's budget proposal was unveiled Tuesday. It involves $60 billion, $2.5 billion of which is the focus of everyone's attention because it involves a new tax.

It would come from an increased gas tax of 45 cents per gallon.

"We haven't received any positive phone calls in the office… People are opposed to such a large increase and we need to take that seriously," state Sen. Jon Bumstead, a Republican from Newaygo and the vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said. "But all in all, we have to keep an open mind and we still have to work together with the governor and get budgets passed."
