KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Around 30 people were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment building near Kalamazoo early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Sage Terrace Apartments near the intersection of W. Main Street and Drake Road in Kalamazoo Township.
Fire officials on scene told 24 Hour News 8 that the fire started in a kitchen on the second floor. It took firefighter about 30 minutes to put out the flames.
A family had to be rescued from a third-floor window. There are no reports of injuries, according to fire officials.
The second floor was heavy damaged, displacing about 30 people. The property manager is working to find shelter for those affected.
The fire remains under investigation. At this time, the Kalamazoo Township fire marshal said it’s not considered suspicious.
