GUN PLAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A mother was killed and her child was injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Allegan County Sunday.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Allegan Street, M-89, at 2nd Street in Gun Plain Township, west of Plainwell.
Witnesses told the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office that an eastbound vehicle went to pass vehicles around 6th Street but stayed in the westbound lanes until around 2nd Street. That is where a vehicle in the westbound lane was able to avoid hitting the wrong-way driver.
A second westbound vehicle tried to avoid hitting the vehicle but was sideswiped and went into a ditch. The wrong-way driver then crashed into a third westbound vehicle.
When authorities arrived on scene, the at-fault driver was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office has identified her as 25-year-old Kalyn Ann Cole of Benton Harbor.
Her child, who was secured in a booster seat, was pinned in the backseat with multiple injuries. The sheriff’s office said the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
All westbound drivers received minor or non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.
