GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Wyoming mom who pleaded guilty to leaving her baby strapped in a car seat in a stifling apartment for three days is headed to prison.
Lovily Johnson was sentenced Thursday in Kent County Circuit Court to 20 to 80 years in prison for the July 2017 death of her 6-month-old son Noah. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November.
During the sentencing, Johnson’s attorney made a final plea on behalf of his client, saying Johnson didn’t act with intent to harm, but instead, was negligent. He said Johnson, who was 23 at the time of her son’s death, was a “baby having babies” and that she herself had been abused.
