GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids’ West Side is now home to a solar power system that’s the first of its kind in the state.
Consumers Energy and Rockford Construction joined city leaders Wednesday at the West Michigan Center of Arts and Technology to dedicate Circuit West, which spans 13 blocks, including Stocking Avenue, Turner Avenue, Second Street and Bridge Street.
The system that encompasses the Bridge Street Market features a new rooftop solar array that produces energy and a battery system that stores it.
When plans for the development were announced during the summer of 2017, Rockford Construction and Consumers Energy said the benefits will be two-fold: lower energy bills and fewer and shorter power outages.
