Autopsy: GR man died from exposure, had facial injuries

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators say a Grand Rapids  man found dead in his friend’s driveway had injuries to his face.

That friend discovered 57-year-old Gregory Gietzen around 8:30 a.m. Sunday and called authorities.

Investigators  say a preliminary autopsy shows Gietzen died from exposure to the  frigid cold. However, he also had injuries to his face, which may have  been caused by a fall or assault.

Gietzen  was last seen alive around 8:30 p.m. Saturday leaving a bar near West  River Drive and 4 Mile Road in Comstock Park. The Kent County Sheriff’s  Office says Gietzen planned to visit his friend in the 4500 block of  Bekinshire Drive NW, but never arrived.

Investigators are trying  to determine if Gietzen used a ride share company or someone else for  the ride. They’re hoping the driver can help them piece together the  last moments Gietzen was alive.

Anyone with information in this  case is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 616.632.6125 or  Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
