ANN ARBOR, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — A former USA Gymnastics executive involved in the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal is now coaching women's gymnastics at the University of Michigan.
The university confirmed the hire Saturday in a press release after people spotted Rhonda Faehn with the team Friday in Alabama.
Feedback on the hire has been overwhelmingly negative, compounded by the fact that Faehn helps fill a vacant coaching position created in October. Then-assistant coach Scott Vetere, 39, resigned and faces criminal charges for having sex in a public place with an 18-year-old U of M student.
24 Hour News 8 obtained his personnel file from U of M, but found no prior incidents of misconduct or allegations.
Online court records show Vetere is due back in court in February. The student was also charged, though her name was never released.
